Go Slingers!

25 01 2008

SlingersI’ve probably heard that phrase thousands of times at the office over the radio, I had no idea what this ‘Go Slingers’ thing was about. All I heard is a lot of rumbling from the DJ then suddenly this ‘Go Slingers’ phrase comes up. (Like what/who in the world is/are the ’Slingers’?)

Since my brother is a lazy ass, he takes forever to upload photos. $%^&@

So anyway, my brother being the oh-so-random person he is, won 8 free tickets to the Slingers game at the indoor stadium, by calling up some radio station to answer some question. And I was invited to go because he couldn’t find one more person to make up the people, plus he didn’t want to waste that one ticket too. Since I was free that day, I tagged along with his friends to watch the match (That’s how I found out that the ‘Slinger’s were what the Singapore basketball team were called).

Ok this entry keeps getting interrupted by “Coffee Prince”, no I can’t type and watch at the same time cause it has dual sound and I like to watch it in korean (sounds nicer to watch Koreans speak korean).

Anyway, the stadium wasn’t really packed to the max, but it’s not like there’s no one there to support.

The cheerleaders (who only just danced around in short shorts)

And a small crowd.

And a weird mascot which is suppose to look like the Merlion.

It was the Singapore Slingers vs the Wollongong Hawks. Singapore’s team had like, 2 Asian players? The rest were imported. And the Asian players came out to play for only a few minutes before going back to bench-warming duty. So anyway, we had pretty good seats which were really near the court. We were seated in the front row! Just behind the sponsers of the game. During the game, whenever the Aussies were going to shoot (cause someone commited some foul which I couldn’t make out what it was through the referee’s handsigns) some Singh guy seated in on of ‘boxes’ meant for sponsers would hold up this sign saying ‘MISS LAH’ and then he’ll flip it over with it saying ‘I’M HERE WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND’.

the sign! the sign!

If you look properly you’ll be able to spot the sign.

Singapore won the game in the end.

And we were allowed to go onto the court, and take photos with the players whose names I had to find out from their jerseys cause I’ve never heard of them before. And, and, and, the infamous sign that captured everyone’s attention during the game was there too! Everyone wanted to take a photo with it. Haha.

Everyone took a photo with it except me, cause I was the cameraman. Heh.

The court… And the players.
