Surviving Uni 101

22 11 2009

Now that summer holidays are edging closer, and we’re all heading home soon, we’re all trying to finish off our food to minimise wastage. Best way to do it? Invite your friends over for dinner or lunch or whatever meal you can think of.

It was lunch at TT’s place, then AA made dinner and we all had it at my place. Before that happened, I went running around pooling ingredients from TT and AA, so that Hills could make us chocolate chip cookies and lemon bars. SO YUMMY! Such things can only be done if everyone stays on-campus, or if everyone stays really, really close to each other. Or if you and your neighbours are pretty good friends. I mean sometimes we’re like, ‘We’re out of eggs, I’ll go ask if AA has some to spare‘ and then I’ll run up to her place to grab some eggs for whatever we were making. Like how I went up to her place 3 times today to get eggs, flour and sugar because we kept finding out we were lacking ingredients for the cookies and lemon bars whilst mixing everything together.

It’s always fun to share food.

But they made fun of my microwave rice cooker :(

SQUID~

22 10 2009

Adelaide can be a little Zzzzz… at times, and doing assignments for long hours makes you just wanna sit and stare and do nothing. Okay, I’ve been told that I tend to space out a lot, but that’s not the point. Anyway, recently I just picked up fishing and whenever the weather’s good, we’ll head out to Brighton to catch some squid. Yesterday was the most eventful fishing trip. We caught 6 squids in total! Together with 2 squids from a previous catch, we had 8 squids for dinner last night. Haha.

We’re going to Melbourne like, tonight. Go pack now.

9 10 2009

The mid-semester break went by so fast. But it was good. Spent the first week doing nothing, just bumming around and what not. And then the second week of the break was spent in Melbourne. It was a super last minute trip. I got woken up by JTWW (who has adopted AA and I as his ‘daughters’) and TT on Monday afternoon and was told to start packing because we were going to leave that very night. Yeah, they kinda like came into my room and I woke up to two figures sniggering at my bedside. So, I had a couple of hours to pack and then the next thing I remember, I think I had dinner and then we were leaving Adelaide. The housemates were mortified when they saw me walking out with a huge bag as I waved goodbye. They were shouting ‘Come back here!‘ demanding goodbye hugs before I was allowed to walk out the door. Awww…

At Queen Victoria Market

Anyway, we left Adelaide at 1.30am and JTWW drove 8 hours to get us to Melbourne. It started out with TT in the front seat, and then she got sleepy so I went in front and got hungry at 3.00am. I’m a horrible road trip companion because I don’t talk much thus not being a very useless person at keeping the driver awake. Plus, I fell asleep for a while at around… 4ish 5am. Hehe. So poor JTWW was left to fend for himself. Read the rest of this entry »

We saw whales, seals and penguins!

21 09 2009

AA’s friend was here to visit, and she brought goodies from Singapore! AA’s mum got us mooncakes and bak kua. Yums. I was suppose to pay her back, but then AA said her mum decided that it’ll be a bribe for me to not pick on her daughter. Like, she’s the one who picks on me lor. Anyway, we headed out to Mclaren Vale and popped into a couple of the vineyards. Found yummy sauces, olive oil with lemon and dessert wine. After that it was off to Victor Harbour and we were lucky enough to catch the whales at The Bluff because whale season is supposedly over. We were just taking in the scenery when we heard the whales and couldn’t contain our excitement, okay. Maybe I couldn’t contain my excitement, not sure about the rest. Haha. Royal Adelaide Show

12 09 2009
At the goat show thing

I have yummy apple and guava juice

Lots of people were talking about it. So AA and I decided that we would go and check it out. We spent the whole day on our feet walking around the show grounds checking out the rides and many various the stalls selling all sorts of things. We ventured from the stalls selling fruits, plants and what not, to the hall that had stalls selling show bags. They had tents up for food tasting, animal petting, goat shows, pig racing, cowing milking etc. The cows were taller than I am and I was pointing to the cows while telling AA ‘That’s the milk you’ve bought’ since Pura was demonstrating how they get their milk. She winced a little, hahaha.

The four of us made it back home with sore legs because we were walking so much. I slept really well that night, I was so tired at the end of the day. And, and, and… we’re going to attempt to fly the kite that we got at the show… one day. Haha. Not sure when that day will come though.

Hee.

(:

Thank you. I had an awesome time today.

:D

Pity we didn’t get any crabs, maybe next time.

It’s been stuck in my head

Oh do you have a story
Do you have a story for me?
Do you know the one where
We’ll all live happily

Do you, do you
Do you, do you

I need…

5 08 2009

Paper fasteners or treasury tags. I wished they had a wider variety of stationary here. People here need to see how Popular bookstore is like. And Popular isn’t even a shop that specialises in stationary, and their stationary collection would probably beat the collection of stationary they have here at their news agent, hands down.

Yes, I have a thing for stationary shopping.

And yes, I’m attempting to file my lecture notes and stuff in a bid to be ‘neat and organised‘.

The second semester has begun!

2 08 2009

Orientation week just went by like that, and the first week of classes just ended. It was a busy a week for me and I’m exhausted.

The glasses scream NERD

Here’s a picture of me in nerdy glasses so that you’ll think that I’ve been a really diligent student (which I really am, honest!).

Now, I’ve got to go find myself some food.

Yet another road trip

25 07 2009

It seems like my unit is a huge fan of road trips. Especially so when we have two Aussie housemates whose homes are within driveable distance. So, about two days after we got back from Horsham, we headed off to Port Augusta where J is from.

I love swings (:

I love swings (:

Compared to our Horsham trip, our Port Augusta trip is way shorter. We were only there for three days. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. And this time, our new housemate (the exchange student from France) came along. We’ll call him TP on this blog :) Read the rest of this entry »
